One of the biggest problems with controlling equipment wirelessly is having good if not perfect line of sight. High frequency radios that transmit on 900 mHz or higher require direct line of sight. The advantage with high frequency radios is there ability to transmit a lot of data. This is important if you intend on monitoring continuous information like a 4-20 mA signal that is representative of analog information like liquid level, valve position, motor current etc. The drawback if you will need good line of sight.
For applications that only require on/off control a low frequency radio can be used. The advantage to low frequency wireless is that it will work in non line of sight applications. This is especially useful for controlling equipment like wireless tank filling or wireless valve control for irrigation systems. Low frequency wireless can span long distances upwards of 5 miles. In many applications low frequency wireless does not need line of sight and can transmit over hills, trees, buildings, and other objects that block the line of sight.
Cannon Water Technology has both high frequency wireless solutions for sending data and low frequency wireless solutions for switching equipment on and off.
