Working Principles of Degassing Valves
A degassing valve is a normally open valve, which allows free inward and outward movement of air inside a pipe or tank. This is a scenario, wherein no liquid is present inside, and hence gravity keeps the float down and the valve open. Once the pipeline is filled with liquid, the float rises upward along with the liquid and the valve closes.
Gradually, certain gases start accumulating in the liquid, and once there is a sufficient quantity of gas, the float goes down and the valve opens, thus forcing the air or gases outside the system, which is called outgassing. The vent through which the gas is expelled is quite small, especially for large amounts of gas to be pushed outside. Hence, a degassing valve is necessary.
Once the required amount of outgassing happens, the valve opens, the float goes down, and the free exchange of air begins.
