Back Pressure/Pressure Relief Valves

Back pressure relief valves, unlike regular pressure relief valves are more than simply a safety mechanism. They are a part of the system and hold pressure on vessels or separators in a manufacturing setup and release upstream pressure at pre-programmed or specified set points. Also called back pressure regulators, they are usually closed because of the load, mechanical or hydraulic stress, and so on.

At Cannon Water Technology, we offer back pressure relief valves with different connection types, such as flanged, union style, and threaded. These are made from superior quality materials that can withstand harsh operating environments, vibrations, abrasive materials, and so on.

How Does a Back Pressure Relief Valve Work?

Primarily, back pressure regulating valves help maintain the upstream pressure. In any pumping system, where either fluids, water, or gases are pumped at regular intervals or continuously, a back pressure valve helps maintain pressure at the pump outlet. It maintains the overall system pressure. As mentioned, they are mostly closed valves and this helps prevent backflow or downstream flow of the fluid. This ensures correct supply of pressure to all connected equipment and maintain just the right amount of fluid pressure. These valves open only when excess pressure is to be released. You need to install this pressure valve at the dosage point depending on the downstream pressure. It is mostly installed adjacent to the pressure relief valve. Also, you need to adjust the set point based on your application requirements.

Beneficial Features of Back Pressure Relief Valves at Cannon Water

There are many benefits of back pressure regulating valves and especially when you source them from us. Here are some of them.

  • We offer these valves in three connection patterns- union style, threaded, and flanged. We offer fast turnaround times, and can ship anywhere across the US and Canada.
    • Union style back pressure relief valves are quite easy to install and remove from the pumping or piping system. They do not require specialized tools.
    • Our flanged valves are designed for high temperature and pressure applications. These valves incorporate socket-welded flanges depending on the material such as metal or plastic.
    • Our threaded valves have threaded connection pattern with the help of which the valve is mounted or fitted onto the inlet or vessel.
  • Our valves are made of premium quality metals and thermoplastic.
  • Most of these valves do not have moving parts that go onside the vessel or chamber, and this makes them durable and low on maintenance.
  • They are designed to withstand dirty water, abrasive chemicals, heat, and so on, and this is what high pressure pumping applications require.
  • They are designed for high flow capacity with minimum pressure drop.
  • We offer them in various sizes ranging from 0.25 to 5 inches and beyond.
  • We offer valves of reputed brands and made from premium quality materials.
  • We have a stringent testing and inspection process in place, and each valve is inspected in terms of functionality, structure, and safety before they are shipped out.

Things to Consider Before Selecting a Pressure Relief Valve

Here are some pointers to consider when selecting a back pressure relief valve.

  • One must know the application requirement thoroughly as this helps choose the right size and material of the valve.
  • Ensure safety checks of the valve and its behavior in overpressure events. This is crucial to safeguard both workers and equipment.
  • The size of the inlet opening of the valve must be equal to the inlet and discharge piping, as per industry standards.
  • Each pressure chamber or boiler has a maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) which must not be exceeded. The set point of the valve must be adjusted accordingly.
  • Some other factors include positioning, sealing, and setting low pressure value to prevent overpressure.

Applications

These are widely used in water treatment applications, and hence also known as water pressure relief valves. Here are some application areas of back pressure relief valves:

  • Wastewater treatment
  • Separators
  • Compressing and dehydrating units
  • Heat treatment
  • Oil and gas
  • Chemicals
  • Food processing
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Agriculture
  • Environmental
