Centrifugal Sand Separators

Since 1972, LAKOS has been delivering advanced centrifugal separation technology to address challenging water filtration applications. Their engineered solutions are designed to efficiently remove solid particles from water while maintaining reliable performance in demanding industrial environments.

Centrifugal sand separators operate by directing water tangentially into a specially designed separation chamber. This entry motion generates a high-velocity vortex inside the barrel. As the water spins, heavier suspended solids are forced outward toward the wall of the chamber due to centrifugal force, while gravity pulls these particles downward. At the same time, the clarified water moves through the low-pressure center of the vortex and exits the outlet with significantly reduced solid content, allowing cleaner water to continue to downstream systems and equipment.

The separated sand and particulate matter collect at the bottom of the separator chamber and are periodically discharged through a purge process to maintain optimal performance.

LAKOS centrifugal sand separators are capable of removing up to 98% of particles measuring 74 microns (200 mesh) or larger in a single pass. The system is designed for minimal maintenance, requiring only occasional purging of accumulated solids. This process can be automated using an LAKOS AccuPurge Valve, enabling continuous and efficient operation without manual intervention.
